Today's verses of scripture are from 1st Peter again as well as the book of Proverbs.
1 Peter 5: 6-7
"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
We are commanded throughout scripture to be humble before God and others. God exalts humility but punishes pride. In fact, pride is detestable to God. After all, Lucifer fell from his position in heaven because of his pride.
Pride is a very difficult attribute to shake, especially among men who are used to crushing whatever is put in front of them. It destroys our witness and enables us to do things that are contrary to The Spirit.
Proverbs 6: 16-19
"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."
When we are prideful, we aren't necessarily trusting in God and have elevated ourselves to a position that isn't accurate. We are susceptible to falling and being devastated. The moment we think we have it all figured out is the time when we fall straight onto our face and bust open our nose.
In our pride, the flesh is at work and we are vulnerable to the enemy of our souls.
1 Peter 5: 8
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
So true…! Have fallen on my face more than I’d like to admit when I thought “I had it”…
